Itinerary
Explore the stunning Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) on a full-day tour from Cusco. Admire the Andean landscapes, visit traditional communities, spot local wildlife such as alpacas and vicuñas, and enjoy an unforgettable hike to one of Peru’s most iconic natural destinations.
Hotel pick-up in Cusco
We begin our tour between 4:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. with a pick-up from your hotel in the historic center of Cusco. We will embark on a scenic drive south in tourist transportation.
Scenic drive to Cusipata
During the approximately 3-hour drive, we’ll pass through picturesque towns like Oropesa, Andahuaylillas, and Urcos, enjoying spectacular views of the Andes.
Breakfast in Cusipata
We’ll stop in the district of Cusipata to enjoy a typical Andean breakfast to prepare us for the hike to the mountain.
Arrival at Phulawasipata and start of the hike
From the starting point at Phulawasipata (4,630 m / 15,190 ft), we’ll begin a moderate 1.5-hour hike to Rainbow Mountain. Along the way, you’ll see alpacas, llamas, vicuñas, and impressive high-altitude scenery.
Rainbow Mountain – Vinicunca (5,200 m / 17,060 ft)
At the summit, you’ll have free time to rest, take photos, and admire this natural phenomenon of multicolored mineral layers. The views of the Vilcanota mountain range and the Ausangate snow-capped peak are breathtaking.
Return to Phulawasipata
After exploring the mountain, we’ll begin our return hike to the starting point at Phulawasipata, where our transport will be waiting for us.
Lunch in Cusipata
We’ll return to Cusipata to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch featuring typical regional dishes.
Return to Cusco
After lunch, we’ll begin the journey back to Cusco. Estimated arrival time is between 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. We will drop you off at your hotel or in the Plaza de Armas, depending on your preference.
